JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS
A 55-year-old electrician was killed in an industrial accident at a water-pumping facility in York.
The Pennsylvania workplace death occurred at about 10:58 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 500 Gebhart Road in Windsor Township. Benedict Todt, of Gardners (in Adams County) was installing an electrical switch gear box at the Red Lion Municipal Authority’s waste water plant. He was moving the seven-foot by four-foot box into place when it came off its rollers and fell. The electrician was trapped beneath the two-ton box. The switch box was not connected to an electrical source at the time of the accident.
Mr. Todt was working alone at the time of his death. There was another worker in the building, but he did not witness the accident. The worker ran to the scene when he heard the box fall. He called 911.
York Area Regional Police officers and Windsor Township fire fighters arrived at the scene expecting to find a victim of cardiac arrest, but they soon discovered that the injury was an industrial accident. Mr. Todt was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:01 p.m. by Deputy Coroner Terry Meyers. An autopsy determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma. The coroner believes that Todt died within minutes of the accident.
The death is being treated as an industrial accident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
Mr. Todt was employed as an electrician for Lobar Inc., a construction company based in Dillsburg.
The attorneys at Mednick, Mezyk & Kredo, P.C., would like to offer our condolences to the Todt family.
