Worker Injured in Bucks County Roof Collapse

JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS

It took two cranes to rescue a worker who was trapped after a roofing collapse in Buckingham Township.

The construction site accident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2013, in the Heritage Center development off York Road in Buckingham. A roof collapsed at a commercial building construction site leaving a worker caught in the wreckage. The worker was later identified as thirty-seven-year-old Edimar DeOliveira of Philadelphia.

The injured man was trapped for more than an hour as first responders from the Lingohocken Fire Company used cranes, ladders, and air bags to free DeOliveira from the rubble. DeOliveira was airlifted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was listed in good condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The Pennsylvania construction site is still under investigation, but officials say that the collapse occurred after the wood framing of the roof buckled taking out a large portion of the buildings frame. The cause of the buckling is not known.

Construction work can be dangerous. When a Philadelphia construction worker is injured on-the-job, his medical bills are covered by Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation. He may also be eligible to receive monetary payments while he recovers from his injuries. PA Workers’ Compensation is not automatic.
