Philadelphia Auto Accident Injures Eight and Closes I-76
JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS
Historically known for being dangerous, the Conshohocken Curve on Interstate 76 just outside of Philadelphia was the location of another accident on Saturday, January 19th, closing the highway in both directions for nearly an hour. The Philadelphia auto accident resulted in a chain reaction that involved five cars holding fourteen people and injuring eight.
Though the accident is still under investigation, Pennsylvania State Trooper Edmund Homa commented that it appeared the initial car stopped short on the Conshohocken Curve when they encountered a backup of traffic. The second car stopped short of the first car, but ultimately crashed into the first car by a third car, which could not stop in time. A fourth car stopped short, but a fifth car could not stop and collided with the fourth car and pushed into the other three cars. Homa stated that “cars were strewn about the highway” and caused the road to be closed in both directions while the drivers and passengers were attended to by emergency personnel.
Homa indicated that speed was a contributing factor to the accident and likely at least four of the cars involved were totaled. Homa would not comment on the seriousness of the eight people injured, however, he did indicate that they were all taken to area hospitals for treatment.
