New Partnership Seeks to Reduce Workers’ Compensation Claims

JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS

A Philadelphia workers’ compensation attorney at Mednick, Mezyk & Kredo has learned of a new policy that partners the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to improve workplace safety for aircraft cabin crewmembers.

The partnership allows OSHA to help enforce certain occupational health and safety standards that are not currently covered by the FAA. The FAA will have final oversight for all flight safety programs, but will allow for a safer workplace for all flight crewmembers.

OSHA will help monitor workplace safety issues for cabin crewmembers (flight attendants and crew) such as exposure to hazardous chemicals, blood-borne pathogens and hearing conservation programs. As the FAA and OSHA works together, they will ensure that flight crew have a safe working environment while also ensuring that no safety precautions impact aviation safety.

“This policy shows the strength of agencies working together and will enhance the safety of cabin crewmembers and passengers alike,” Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez said of the program. “It is imperative that cabin crewmembers have the same level of safety assurances that they provide to the public.”

OSHA is currently conducting outreach efforts to determine how and where they can create safety programs and begin enforcement activities. The policy partnership is a result of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, where the FAA was required by Congress to develop a policy with OSHA to protect crewmembers while they are onboard an aircraft.

Our Philadelphia workers’ compensation attorneys applaud programs that put the safety of workers first. If you have suffered an injury while on the job, call us today at 888-807-WORK (9675) for a free consultation.
