New Partnership Aims to Reduce Workplace Accidents in Philadelphia

JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS

A new initiative partners the Philadelphia regional office of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and health Administration (OSHA) with the Consulate of Mexico to help prevent workplace accidents in Philadelphia. The partnership seeks to provide safety and health training to Mexican nationals working in Pennsylvania and Delaware through education programs and increased access to resources.

OSHA feels the program is an exciting new way to help limit workplace accidents in the Philadelphia area through increased awareness of the hazards that lead to accidents. The alliance seeks to educate partners about OSHA standards, workplace safety training and education of workplace risks. The alliance intends to hold outreach events like mobile consulate activities to involve partners in the workplace.

“By working with the Mexican Consulate, we will advance our effort to provide Spanish-speaking workers with vital information about their rights and how to stay safe on the job,” said MaryAnn Garrahan, OSHA regional administrator in Philadelphia.

OSHA’s alliance programs seek to join businesses, trade associations, unions, consulates, professional organizations, faith and community-based organizations and educational institutions to prevent workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses. They seek to develop a set of tools for employers and workers to understand their rights and responsibilities as well as form valuable relationships with the organizations that seek to maintain safe workplaces.

A safe workplace translates into a more productive and better workplace for all. Workplace accidents in Philadelphia can have a lasting impact on an individual’s life. The medical bills, lost wages and resulting disabilities can sometimes seem insurmountable.
