New Compassionate Allowances Help Disabled Pennsylvanians
JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS
The Compassionate Allowances (CAL) initiative was created by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to process disability claims quicker for applicants who are seriously ill and clearly meet the disability requirements for the SSA. This expedited claim process helps both SSDI and SSI applicants in Pennsylvania; the claim process is updated often as more severe illnesses are recognized and treated.
In December, the SSA added 35 new Compassionate Allowances to their list to include 200 current conditions that apply for expedited claims. Some newly added conditions include:
- Adult Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
- Adult Onset Huntington Disease
- Child T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma
- Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma
- Malignant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor
- Menkes Disease – Classic or Infantile Onset Form
- Severe Combined Immunodeficiency – Childhood
- Sinonasal Cancer
- Transplant Coronary Artery Vasculopathy
To consider new Compassionate Allowances, the SSA monitors information from health organizations, advocacy groups, and the public regarding severe health issues. These conditions are typically added on an annual basis and are constantly reviewed by the SSA. For a full listing of Compassionate Allowances, visit the SSA website.
With the Compassionate Allowances initiative, an attorney can often obtain benefits for an applicant or their family quickly while the patient receives vital medical treatment and focuses on healing. The dedicated and experienced Pennsylvania Social Security attorneys at Mednick, Mezyk & Kredo will help file your initial application, citing Compassionate Allowances as necessary to help expedite your claim.
