Man Killed in Crane Accident in Shady Grove, PA

A recent tragic accident at Manitowoc Crane Group resulted in the death of Rickie Lee Grimsley. The accident occurred on Thursday, August 29th at Manitowoc’s Shady Grove facility when Grimsley was pinned between a parked crane and a crane being operated by another employee.
Pennsylvania State Police confirmed in a press release that the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the former Grove Worldwide plant off Pa. Route 16 West. Grimsley was unable to get out of the way of an oncoming crane that had turned too sharply and pinned him against another crane. Emergency personnel from the Greencastle Rescue Hose Company along with Pennsylvania State Police responded to the accident.
Grimsley was given CPR by emergency responders, however died at the scene of the accident. Manitowoc’s vice president of human resources for the Americas, Wayne Bunch, confirmed that emergency services were called immediately, and that they arrived quickly, however, there was nothing that could be done for Grimsley. Bunch went on to state that the company is cooperating with state police and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), who is currently investigating the accident.
“We’re asking for everyone’s thoughts and prayers for the employee and those involved in the accident,” Bunch stated.
Manitowoc Crane Group employs about 1,300 workers at their Shady Grove facility, including 800 production and 500 staff positions. The company produces approximately 200 cranes per month.
