What Every Philadelphia Driver Needs to Know Before Driving on Super Bowl Sunday

JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS

There’s just about a week till the Super Bowl. Will you watch? Do you have a favorite team?

The Super Bowl is our nation’s most anticipated sports event. More than 108 million people watched the Super Bowl last year. Many of them watched with friends. Some watched in sports bars. They shared snacks, companionship and a few beers. Some had more than a few drinks. Some of them got behind the wheel. Some never made it home.

According to a 10-year study based in California, alcohol-related car crashes are 75% more likely to occur on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other Sunday of the year. This means that instead of mourning the loss of your favorite team, you could end up mourning a loved one.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Football League (NFL) are working with cities throughout Pennsylvania to reduce drunk driving accidents this Super Bowl Sunday. Their campaign is called Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk. The campaign is aimed at educating football fans about the risk of drunk driving.

If you will be attending a Super Bowl party, plan ahead for a safe ride home. If you will be hosting a Super Bowl party, we urge you to take the following steps to protect your guests:

  • Take car keys from party goers as they arrive.
  • Serve protein-rich and starchy foods that slow alcohol absorption.
  • Serve a variety of non-alcoholic drinks.
  • Do not serve alcohol to anyone under age 21.
  • Stop serving alcohol during the third quarter of the game.
  • Offer additional food and coffee during the final quarter.
  • Do not return car keys to anyone who seems impaired.
  • Do not let guests drive drunk. Call a taxi for anyone who is too impaired to drive.

The auto accident attorneys at Mednick, Mezyk & Kredo, P.C., wish you a safe Super Bowl Sunday. Feel free to repost these tips on Facebook. You could save a life.
