Transitional Work

This type of duty allows an injured employee to work in a modified or alternate position. This duty may be similar or quite different than the duties an employee may be used to. However, it allows for a period of time where the employee can adjust to returning to work as well as learning the physical limits with which they are comfortable.

If Your Employer Cannot Provide Transitional Work

If an injured employee is released to work in a limited capacity by his doctor, but the employer does not have transitional work, then workers’ compensation benefits will pay the employee until transitional work can be found. If an employer still cannot find transitional work after a period of time, a vocational rehabilitation specialist may be assigned to your case to help you transition into another position that suits your capabilities and career goals.

Ongoing Treatment

While an injured individual may be released by their doctor for “light duty” or transitional work, that does not mean that medical payments will cease.
