Increased Risk of Philadelphia Car Accidents During Thanksgiving Week
JENKINTOWN PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEYS
As we take this day to be thankful for our friends, family and other aspects of our lives, we take a moment to discuss and heed the dangers of the road during this week in particular. With nearly 90% of Americans traveling by car for the Thanksgiving holiday, the roads present a host of dangers for drivers.
With many drivers on the road at night, navigating unfamiliar roads and on riskier two-lane roads, this week in particular is among the deadliest of the year for all drivers. “Whenever traffic volume goes up, crashes generally go up as well,” director of the University of Alabama Center for Advanced Publish Safety, Allen Parrish, said. “You have a lot of people on the roads over Thanksgiving, so the crashes are naturally going to get worse.”
According to data collected by the University of Alabama, traffic fatalities occurring during Thanksgiving week from 2005-2010 equaled 798, while during all other weeks of the year, the number of fatalities averaged around 748. This spike is disheartening considering this is supposed to be a time of joy, love and family.
It is at this time of year we remind everyone to stay safe on the roads. And, if the worst should happen, it is important to know that we are on your side. If you or someone you love has been injured in a Philadelphia car accident, call our experienced legal team for a free consultation.
