All assets, including money, houses, cars, personal injury settlements, etc. are included when determining SSI benefits. So if the amount received is over the SSI limits of $2000 for liquid assets, then the SSI benefits will be affected/stopped.  The settlement funds could be placed in a special needs trust, if applicable, and then the benefits will not be affected.  Because SSDI benefits are not “need based” like SSI, the SSDI benefits will not be affected.
