1. Exchange Information. Get the names, numbers, addresses, drivers’ license numbers, license plate numbers, and insurance information from all drivers involved. If there are passengers or there were witnesses, obtain their names, numbers, and addresses. Police do not always investigate accidents in Pennsylvania anymore. Call and see if you can get an officer to issue a police report.

2. Take Photographs. Use your cell phone to photograph the damage to all vehicles involved in the accident. Take scene photographs too. If you have visible injuries, take photographs. It is important to document all evidence before it is removed and/or destroyed.

5. Do Not Give a Statement. Do not give any statements to any insurance company or investigator after the accident without first hiring an attorney and having the attorney present. If called by the insurance company, politely tell them to contact your attorney or tell them you are in the process of seeking legal counsel and you do not wish to give a statement.
